Position Summary
We seek an innovative and experienced Data Scientist to enhance our existing software development capability. This pivotal role will focus initially on developing cutting-edge solutions for air, space and maritime domain awareness, specifically sensor fusion and track behaviour prediction. The role also requires an ability to contribute to growing our Decision Science capability, in terms of people, processes and data infrastructure. There is further scope to undertake broader ML delivery against a wide range of uses cases across Metrea. The ideal candidate will have either a post-doctoral background in a quantitative field (although a Masters degree plus suitable experience is equally valuable) and a passion for applying advanced data science techniques to solve complex challenges in the Defence sector.
Role and Responsibilities
- Translate operational requirements into technical solutions, working closely with cross-functional teams.
- Develop and implement advanced multi-domain sensor/track fusion algorithms, initially focusing on maritime applications.
- Apply and adapt state-of-the-art data science techniques to address broader Defence-related challenges, including object detection, decision support and LLM deployment.
- Mentor and manage junior team members and foster a collaborative, innovative work environment.
- Apply and recommend data science best practices and contribute to shared resources.
- Pursue continuous learning and stay abreast of emerging trends in data science, AI, sensor technologies, and simulation techniques across Defence applications.
Skills and Experience
- Post-doctoral degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related STEM discipline) or equivalent professional experience with a Masters’ degree.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with proficiency in ML libraries
- Strong knowledge of Machine Learning and AI techniques
- Experience with multi-source sensor fusion techniques and algorithms
- Familiarity with MLOps and cloud computing platforms; Azure preferred
- Excellent communication and teaching skills, able to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Passion for continuous learning and sharing knowledge with colleagues
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, innovative environment
- Prior Defence experience essential
